U14A Take Gold in Oshawa!

The ringette season started off with a bang for the West Ferris U14A ringette team as they competed in the Oshawa Memorial Ringette tournament over the weekend. The team dominated on the first day with two decisive wins: 7-0 win over a team from Barrie and a 9-2 win over the Gloucester Cumberland Devils.

The girls were up early on Saturday to meet a strong City of Ottawa team, but came out on top with a 5-3 win. They continued their winning ways later on that afternoon with a 9-4 win over a physical team from Arnprior, making them undefeated in round robin play and in first place heading into the finals.

On Sunday, the team was determined to win it all, meeting the home Oshawa team in the semis. The 63s showed no mercy, coming out with a 7-0 victory over the home team. The finals were a re-match against the talented team from Ottawa, but the girls had nothing but gold on their minds and battled to a 3-0 win.

All in all, the team recorded 44 goals from great passing and team work. Goalie Emma Huzij recorded 3 shutouts and they gave up a total of only 9 goals against in 6 games with outstanding defense and back checking.

Here comes the 2018/19 House League Season!!

WELCOME TO THE 2018-2019 HOUSE LEAGUE SEASON!

Conditioning Ice Times are now set for Sunday Sept 16 at Pete Palangio Arena, Sunday Sept 23 at West Ferris Arena, and Thursday, September 27th at Pete Palangio Arena. Additional sessions for skills development and scrimmage for U10, U12 and U14 are on Saturday, September 29th.

It is very important that all players playing in all divisions (not including Learn to Skate) attend their division ice time so that they can begin conditioning for the season and be evaluated for team assignment for the upcoming season. The House League Teams will be developed based on these evaluations, and having all the players out for multiple sessions improves the WFRA’s ability to put together balanced teams.

Here is the schedule:

PPK – Pete Palangio Arena – Kelly Ice Pad
PPD – Pete Palangio Arena – Dimarco Ice Pad
WF – West Ferris Arena

ConditioningSchedule

Please note that the way the age levels are grouped in these conditioning / evaluation sessions are not an indication of how the ages / levels will be grouped for the house league teams. It is simply the most efficient way to make the most of our available ice times and so that the U16 and under divisions could get equal evaluation ice time. What the divisions will actually look like will be decided at the house league draft (when players are assigned to teams and house league divisions are formed) and will be largely based on numbers in each division.
See you at the rink! Where fitness, fun and friendships happen.

    Fundraising for the U19A Team!

On March 18, 2018, the West Ferris Ringette U19A team won a silver medal and the Sportsmanship award at the Ontario Provincial Championships. This earned them a wild card spot in the Eastern Ringette Championships held in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia from April 18 to 22.

For the first time in North Bay history, a team is going to the Eastern Ringette Championships! The team has been together for a long time; have worked hard and played hard together.  The girls feel incredibly honoured and excited to represent the birthplace of ringette and are looking forward to this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Let’s all help them get there!!

This dynamic team has a number of fundraising efforts underway. Here are some that WFRA members, friends and family can be part of to help send the team East:

Pasta Dinner – Friday April 13th

The team will be holding a pasta dinner at the Rorab Shrine Club, located at 1250 Brookes Street on Friday, April 13 from 5:30 to 7:30. The cost is $17 for adults, $12 for children and $50 for a family of four. There will be a cash bar, bake sale and a silent auction with items generously donated by community businesses and organizations.
The silent auction has dozens of great items to bid on, including autographed sports items, Golf green fees, Virtual Reality glasses, hand-crafted urns, automotive certificates, tools, fitness memberships, Blue Jays tickets, and so much more!!!

There will be gluten free and vegetarian options. There will be a cash bar (yes, you read that right) bake sale and silent auction. The team is still looking for food donations (email Kelli for the list) and donations of silent auction items.

Raffle tickets for pre-paid credit cards

The top prize is $1000 and the cost is $10. Available through the U19 parents, and on sale at the WFRA Banquet on April 4th. WFRA President / U19 Parent Kelli VB will have some on hand at the 3 on 3 and tryouts and will also accept e-transfers (contact her at president.wfra@westferrisringette.ca).

    Bottle Drive / Drop

The U19s Championship bottle drive is a DROP! Rather than going door to door, the team is asking people to pass their empties along to a team member/parent or bring them to the collection point, which is Mojo Fitness on Regina beside Burger World.Online Donations
And for those who wish to donate online, the team has  Go Fund Me page at www.gofundme.com/wfraU19A. This campaign has already raised $3600 of the $5000 goal set for Go Fund Me!

    Go 63s!
