Click here to see photos from the 2019 East vs. West tournament!

What an excitement-filled night at the West Ferris arena!!  The East (wearing the white jerseys) took on the West (in blue jerseys) in a 4-hour Ringette extravaganza!!!

It started with the U10 division, where East and West were tied at 4 points each at the half.  The West found their rhythm and ended the game with an 8-6 win.

Next up were the U12 players, where the West continued to dominate to make the overall score 15-7 at the half time mark.  This game in the series ended up with a 16-10 final for the West.

The U14/16 squads hit the ice next and the West continued with their dominance around the net, making the overall score an impressive 22-12!!

The U19/18+ Team East had their work cut out for them, and managed to score only a handful of goals in the first half.  An energetic push from the girls in white saw the score tighten up in the second half.  Team East trailed the West by only 1 point with a little over 30 seconds left in the game.

In the end, it was Team West who pulled off the win with a score of 22-21!!!

Congratulations to all of the players!

Looking for Sponsors for the 2019 Provincials!!

The West Ferris Ringette Association is pleased to share with you the news that North Bay has been selected as the host for the 2019 Provincial Ringette Championships, to be held in North Bay and surrounding areas in March 14-17, 2019.

An estimated one thousand athletes will pour into the area for the four day event, along with their coaching staff, friends, fans and families, and we are asking for your help in welcoming them. This is a major undertaking for our volunteer association, and we are reaching out to businesses, service clubs and supporters to ask for your financial and other supports.

Click here for the Sponsorship Brochure and click here for the Sponsorship Registration Letter.

Here are some of the ways you can help:

• Financial support

• Gift items for the athletes

• Donations of healthy food and drinks for hospitality rooms at eight area arenas

• Printing and copying

• Banners and signs

• Volunteers to work at registration desks and as arena hosts

We are very excited to be showcasing our city – the birthplace of ringette – to athletes and their families from across Ontario.

The sport of ringette was invented in North Bay in 1963 by Parks and Recreation director Sam Jacks, who wanted to create another option for girls to get involved in a winter sport, and it has now spread to over a dozen countries, with over 30,000 players across Canada. It really is a great oportunity to be welcoming a thousand elite athletes to North Bay to play the game at a very high calibre in this provincial ringette tournament.

The theme for the tournament is “Homecoming 2019: Back where it all began”. Can you help us roll out the welcome mat?

U14A Take Gold in Oshawa!

The ringette season started off with a bang for the West Ferris U14A ringette team as they competed in the Oshawa Memorial Ringette tournament over the weekend. The team dominated on the first day with two decisive wins: 7-0 win over a team from Barrie and a 9-2 win over the Gloucester Cumberland Devils.

The girls were up early on Saturday to meet a strong City of Ottawa team, but came out on top with a 5-3 win. They continued their winning ways later on that afternoon with a 9-4 win over a physical team from Arnprior, making them undefeated in round robin play and in first place heading into the finals.

On Sunday, the team was determined to win it all, meeting the home Oshawa team in the semis. The 63s showed no mercy, coming out with a 7-0 victory over the home team. The finals were a re-match against the talented team from Ottawa, but the girls had nothing but gold on their minds and battled to a 3-0 win.

All in all, the team recorded 44 goals from great passing and team work. Goalie Emma Huzij recorded 3 shutouts and they gave up a total of only 9 goals against in 6 games with outstanding defense and back checking.
