Message from the President

To all WFRA Members,

I hope everyone is safe and well, and adapting as best they can to our “new normal” during these unusual times. I wanted to touch base with our members and let you all know… WE MISS YOU! I also wanted to provide some insight into the Associations’ 2020-21 planning. We are slowly starting to learn more about what Ringette may look like in the fall, and are working behind the scenes to ensure that we provide our members with a compelling, fun, and safe Ringette experience when we are all able to return to the ice.

Currently, all team sports are evaluating the necessary safety and Return to Play protocols being advised by local health authorities, municipalities and sport governing bodies. Both Ringette Canada and Ringette Ontario published their own comprehensive recommendations for Ringette’s return to play. We encourage all of our members to review Ringette Canada’s National Directive and Ringette Ontario’s Return to Ringette COVID-19. We will be including these links to access these documents along with additional Return to Ringette resources on the homepage of our website within the upcoming weeks.

As outlined in the Ringette Ontario guidelines:

The Return to Ringette Guidelines are founded on the overriding principle of encouraging and providing a safe environment for all participants, team members and volunteers. The Return to Ringette Guidelines seek to allow the maximum amount of participation possible for all members of the organization while adhering to Provincial Health regulations.

The WFRA welcomes this approach, and our Executive continues to stay active and engaged with Ringette Ontario, and the other North East Region Ringette associations, our local Public Health, and municipality. Although Ringette Ontario has made the decision to suspend all sanctioned events until January, we are pleased that they have demonstrated strong leadership and are supportive of a flexible, creative and cautious approach to Return to Ringette.

The health and safety of our families and community members continue to be our top priority. Our Executive team will utilize the latest available information and consider the various scenarios and Return to Ringette stages as we develop our 2020-21 season plan. Based on information and feedback we have collected, we are expecting the large majority of our members will return this season, and we are hopeful that we can start some form of programming in September. Please note, our registration is currently open, and we look forward to sharing with you the latest information on our programming plans for all ages and levels of play closer to that date.

Finally, please don’t hesitate to contact us to share your feedback and questions. We’d love to hear from you and appreciate your efforts to stay connected with our Ringette community during these unprecedented times. We will continue to share all of the latest information from Ringette Ontario on our Associations’ website and through our various social media channels, so please be sure to visit these sources regularly. We are all very excited about the better days ahead. Regardless of how different Ringette may look in the short term, welcoming sport back into our daily lives will be an important milestone to be celebrated.
